Isn’t it frustrating? When we suppose to collect information from the surroundings, the world, so to form an opinion and our beliefs, our subconscious mind instead collects information from the surroundings, the world, to prove our existing opinions and beliefs. With this, we have a tendency to remain in our original opinions and beliefs rather than learning the truth about our surroundings and the world.
In other words, instead of learning, we are just reinforcing what we know and believe.
This means, at one hand we don’t progress and grow, and at the other, it allows to question the veracity of reality. Let me explain.
If reality is what we perceive from the surroundings, and we perceive what just reinforce what is in our minds already, then everybody would confirm a different reality compared with the others; everybody would perceive as a reality what they have in their minds, rather than a common reality for everybody else.
Sure there are many common points about reality we all share, but the fine details will be different, conforming with it a set of parallel universes for each one of us.
An example.
If I am sad and depress, then I will confirm my state of mind when I observe the surroundings and see problems in a street; let’s say, broken pavement; people with sad faces; homeless people, etc. While at the other hand, someone who is in a very good mood will see colored clothes in people around; will enjoy the smell of coffee coming out of a coffee shop, etc.
For me reality will be a sad world of unhappy and needy people, while for the other person it will be a reality of a motivating and even exhilarating world. Two different realities for two different people, depending in their own state of mind. Each one is confirming their own state of mind with what they perceive from the surroundings, rather than having the same perception of the world, and with it acquiring the same concept of reality.
They will live in two different realities, which makes me think other than a “basic” reality, we all live in different fine detailed realities. So is there really a true unique reality for everybody?
Curious, to say the least, don’t you think?
