In the previous post I mentioned perhaps if we were still driving simple vehicles from the 70’s and 80’s there would be less accidents on the roads today.
You see, before we had to look at the road and consider the level of traction our tires would have, and the possibility of spinning wheels depending on the road surface condition. We had to dose the accelerator so not to make the car skid.
Today the car respond automatically to the road conditions, controlling the amount of acceleration and braking to avoid wheel spinning and loosing traction. On Board computers.
Great!! Now I can just push the accelerator without worries; I can take a curve without thinking about the laws of physics…I can drive like an idiot!!
And so they were…
I don’t mean to be sarcastic (I just can’t help it!), but what supposed to be aids for safer driving, turned to become the replacement of driving knowledge! If we consider that, when driving a car we are controlling a ton of weight in motion, so there are laws of physics to keep in mind when trying to turn and stop that thing.
Computers in cars nowadays control the wheels to prevent spinning when accelerating and skidding when braking, all in the intention of allowing for safer turning and stopping, but that shouldn’t mean the driver can forget about that part and jump in the driver seat without knowledge of what could happen depending on how he/she uses the controls in a car in motion.
Adding the new technological advances to a vehicle, when the driver has the knowledge and concentration while driving, should equal a safer driving, yet it seems for many drivers it has become a delegation of responsibility. This thing will take me where I want to go; I just push the accelerator and turn the steering wheel and it has to go.
Geez!!
I wonder in what percentage accidents would be reduced, if instead of an air bag in the steering wheel there was a spike pointing to the driver face!
Can we make it a law?!!
Just kidding!!
But I still believe there would be less accidents these days if cars wouldn’t have computers on board controlling so many things. That simplicity in vehicles would force the drivers to pay more attention and have a better knowledge of what implies driving a car, so drivers would be forced to concentrate more in the driving part of driving, rather than chatting and socializing through their cell phones while on the road.
